Impressive little boat. My first squall.

Sailing the S15. Few times out this season where setting a 2nd reef has been required. 20kts sustained with gusts into upper 20’s. No problem for this small boat. Just need a bit more attention in heading upwind to reduce the pounding in heavy seas. Only issue is wishing I had hanked on the storm ji...

Re: light breezes

Sailing the S15 on L. Superior. One day last week winds went from light (F2) to calm before picking back up. From light chop to ripples to glass. Hard to tell if there was any movement. GPS noted sog from 0 to fraction of a knot. Log noted I was stationary for only +1 minute over the hours sailed. T...

D-PN, PHRF rating of the S15?

On paper hull speed of the S15 is ~5.2 kts( square root of LWL x 1.37). Old memory of the M15 D-PN = 106. PHRF = 306 based on the conversion formula of (D-PN - 55) x 6. Are the S15 rating the same, similar to the M15?

Sail size when reefed?

Curious to the square feet of sail when the S15 has a single reef and a 2nd reef set.

Re: Standing rig tension?

May have determined the source of the creak-cracking sound. The daggerboard and/or the block and tackle hardware used to lift the board. Greg noted when picking up Vela that boar was on the “looser” side of normal. Looking down into the trunk when the board is down you can see a thin line of light. ...

Standing rig tension?

Yesterday was an “interesting” L. Superior day. 14knots SW with gusts into low 20’s. Built to WSW to W 17-20 knots with gusts into upper 20’s. Started the day reefed. Needed to put in the 2nd reef by late morning. Then the 1700 doldrums kicked in a bit early at 1630. A nice 10-12 knot breeze. Shake ...

Re: Loop nuts.

I just googled “loop” and “eye” nuts. Found multiple options. Most were galvanized or 304 stainless. Between metric and SAE plus different thread pitches plus the different sizes of nut used on the S15 it will be a bunch of trial and error. Next winter project will be picking up a variety of std nut...

Transom mount for sculling oar v2.

Motors fail, wind disappears. Need an alt source of propulsion. Sculling oar mount (SOM)v1 worked fine, but..... Practical function issue. Clamps on to the motor mount. Requires removing motor before attachment. Removing an outboard from a rolling, pitching sailboat is no fun. SOM v2 is a transom mo...

Loop nuts.

Has anyone replaced any of the nuts located on the inside of the cabin along the ceiling with loop nuts? If so, what sizes, tpi? Thinking of exchanging couple of the nuts that hold down the jib fairlead. Would allow hanging things like a small gear hammock from the cabin ceiling.
