Re: CV-19 and sailing.
Peak of tourist summer season. People escaping the heat and humidity inland. Our Cover-19 incidents have exploded. We have gone from "safe" to "hot spots". >10x the number of confirmed cases relative to before the 4th weekend. Lot of seasonal live aboards have kept their boats in storage. Guessing t...

CV-19 and sailing.
Sailing season should be in full swing by this weekend. But then, a different year with Covid-19. The marina was only opened to locals until the 20th of May. State Supreme Court overruled the Governor’s “stay at home mandate”. I guess things are open in WI. Vela’s first sail of the very cold waters ...

Re: auto tiller for sage
Sailing a S15 single-handed on L. Superior. No auto tiller. There are times life would be easier with an auto tiller. Small light displacement boat is sensitive to my movement. Add choppy seas. Things can go sideways fast if you don’t stay focused while hoisting or dropping the sails. Did look into ...

Re: Sage 15 Sloop mast
Thanks Jerry. DM-3 and DM-4 look identical. Sizes are real close. Used a set of cheapo plastic calipers to measure. Side note regarding the standing rig. More than care now when stepping or dropping the mast. Friend and 3 other buddies tried circumnavigating L. Superior on couple Hobies this past se...

Re: Sage 15 Sloop mast
Just measured the mast. ~2 3/4 x 2 1/8”. Checked out the Dwyer Mast sight. If a Dwyer mast the profile and dimensions look to be a DM-3.

Sage 15 construction material.
Curious to what Sage Marine uses in construction of transom and bulkheads? Old, questionable memory of seeing images of plywood being used on the bulkheads. This months Practical Sailor magazine had an article comparing the +/- of Coosa, foam, end grain balsa and plywood. Didn’t realize until readin...

Re: End of the season.
Probably should have named Vela, Magnet.
Jerry’s design. Sage’s build. Attracts many people off and on the water.
Winter(snow on the ground) has arrived. 143-173 days until the beginning of the season.

End of the season.
We have had couple days of gale force NE winds and cold rain. Leaves dropping like snowflakes in a Northwoods winter blizzard. Vela now sits sheltered from the elements. Glad I put Vela to rest last Friday. The last sail was close to a perfect day. Awesome autumn colors illuminated by shafts of ligh...

Re: Another maintenance question.
Checked the padeye fitting for any burrs or edge. Feels smooth. No wear on the line where it sits slack at the pad eye when the daggerboard/drop keel is down. Guessing if the pad eye was the issue the ~1500nm of sailing relatively choppy conditions of L. Superior might result in chaff if a burr/edge...
