Sage 17 prototype

I have the prototype Sage 17 and i'd like to trade for a Sagecat. If interested, I live in Sacramento, CA. Very sound, has 8 excellent sails.

Re: End of the season.

Glad you had a good season, Noel, and REALLY glad you like the boat. As I've said several times, the SageCat is my favorite of all the boats I've done. Stiff, strong, and fast.

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Only thing I can think of is that on a run, the lever arm between the mast and the chainplates is much shorter than on a reach, which would put more compression on the mast and cabin top. I've sailed the Montgomery 15 much more than the Sage, but they are identical in terms of mechanics, and carried...

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

I think that the flex is coming from both places; part from the mast flexing and partly from the cabintop. I sailed the prototype for about 6 mo, and the most wind I had was about 15 knots with a few gusts on top of that, and there was not enough looseness in the shrouds for me to be concerned about...

Re: Another maintenance question.

Greg at Sage should have that info in his head- If he doesn't pick this up, call him! I don't understand how it chafed, tho.

Re: D-PN, PHRF rating of the S15?

it took me a couple of races to really get good with the cat; the initial problem was oversheeting upwind. Its been so long since I raced singlehanders seriously (M-10, Sabot, Kite, which was a great little boat popular in Newport Beach at the time) that I'd forgotten the ills of oversheeting, The b...

Re: Rudder tiller question.

Noel- does you rudder trunk have compression tubes, over the bolts and between the plates? Their purpose obviously is to control the clearance for the rudder and tiller. The bolts should be tightened snugly against them.
