Re: Loop nuts.

I just googled “loop” and “eye” nuts. Found multiple options. Most were galvanized or 304 stainless. Between metric and SAE plus different thread pitches plus the different sizes of nut used on the S15 it will be a bunch of trial and error. Next winter project will be picking up a variety of std nut...

Transom mount for sculling oar v2.

Motors fail, wind disappears. Need an alt source of propulsion. Sculling oar mount (SOM)v1 worked fine, but..... Practical function issue. Clamps on to the motor mount. Requires removing motor before attachment. Removing an outboard from a rolling, pitching sailboat is no fun. SOM v2 is a transom mo...

Loop nuts.

Has anyone replaced any of the nuts located on the inside of the cabin along the ceiling with loop nuts? If so, what sizes, tpi? Thinking of exchanging couple of the nuts that hold down the jib fairlead. Would allow hanging things like a small gear hammock from the cabin ceiling.

Re: Please save Sage Marine Blog...

Status? Scobie at his WordPress page has been archiving a few of the blogs. Setting up a page on the SageMarine website as an “owner’s manual, how to do” section would be nice. Topics and questions that have been posted here in the past that were linked to answers on the old blog plus other useful i...

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Thanks for the info. Library has struck out finding a copy of the book. Just googled John S. Letcher. He has allowed for a downloadable pdf version of his book for personal use. Quick skim of the table of contents. Lots of info.

Re: Jib reefing?

Not yet. Was going to head out with the storm sail rigged to see how Vela handles with a full main and if winds picked up with a single reef in the main. Autumn winds were extreme. Either no wind or gale-storm force. Sailing season ended suddenly. Went from 🍂 to 🥶 over night. Next Spring. Simple is ...

Jib reefing?

Article by Larry Brown on the msog.org site comparing the M15 and ComPac16. He noted that the M15 he sailed owned by Georgeana Porton had jib reefing points. Questions: 1. Would you need a working jib made of heavier material than the stock model? 2. Could not find any online info regarding a non-fu...

Seasons over. Winterizing the S15

First Lake Effect snow of the season. ~20cm. Light by local standards. No frost in the ground. Melting from bottom up, but unseasonable cold for the next few days. Skim ice will form at the marina ramps. No launching allowed if ice of any form is visible. Winterizing so far has been removing all but...

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

TillerClutch dependent sailor :) .
Was originally thinking going the cheap route. Bungee/surgical tubing/line tiller “clutch”. But not really practical for quick and frequent on-off. Sailing single-handed life without the TillerClutch would be not as fun.
