Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Hi Jerry, I'm slowly optimizing my Sagecat for my sailing purposes. I just finished installing a basic electrical system much like the one that Dave Scobie installed on a sage 15 while he was working for them, so the battery is secured in the port side storage compartment under the v berth right nex...

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Hi Jerry, sorry for the novice question but when you speak of the forward bulkhead you are referring to the one forward of the keel trunk, about half way way through the v berth, right? Am I correct that in this forward most space is where the battery weight would best be placed?

Re: cockpit tent

Hi Sal, I haven't tried this tent setup yet for myself. I'm considering picking up one of these tents to give it a try on my SageCat this summer in the San Juans. The SageCat has been a fantastic little cruising boat the past two summers for my wife and I (and our dog). I have lucked out with near p...

Re: cockpit tent

A guy named wayne martin posted a pretty slick looking cockpit tent that seems to work rather easily on the montgomery sailboats facebook group page. it is a blackthorn 2 tube tent that seems to set up pretty easily and with minimal modifications and the tent is around 85 bucks on amazon. It could w...

Thanks for the pic and thoughts! Could you post a pic of how it is backed up inside the cabin?

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Hi again Jerry, I've often wondered how the SageCat might do with manual self steering gear fitted. I've read that the Monty 15 and 17 and sage 17 would likely have better "tracking" stability due to a longer keel. I've never sailed any of those boats so I can't make any comparisons in steerage. How...

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Thanks for the advice Jerry! I do like the idea of a heavy weather sail and the idea of a triangular and battenless one seem to make a lot of sense. I would imagine it might make it a bit less expensive being battenless as well. Time to start saving my pennies!

Re: Questions for Jerry Montgomery

Hi Jerry, I am owner of a sagecat hull #6 and couldn't be happier with her so far! I have done two summer cruises for about two weeks each in the San Juan Islands with my wife, her friend and our small dog. However I primarily sail in the Columbia river gorge where the wind gets big fairly regularly...
